
Abeokuta North Local Government has suspended all market leaders, including Iyalojas, Babalojas, and market executives, and established a 15-member Central Market Management and Monitoring Committee (C3MC) to oversee market activities.
The committee, chaired by Alhaja Faidat Akintunde Sarumi, will serve for six months and is tasked with restoring order, structure, and progress in the local government’s markets.
The suspension, effective immediately, prohibits dealings with the suspended leaders, and all market-related activities will now fall under C3MC’s purview.

“The terms of reference for the C3MC shall be to:
- Establish market count
- Determine needed facilities
- Recommend appropriate rates and cycle for collection
- Ensure free flow of traffic and traffic management within and around the markets
- Propose market structure that would be sustainable
- Ensure urgent and immediate evacuation of refuse and blockages in drain ducts and gutters
- Comprehensive review of the security architecture of markets in conjunction with security operatives
- Ensure the establishment of appropriate environmentally acceptable practices within the markets
- Ensure proper uploading of all market segments and groups on LG portal to ensure proper headcount for management of robust database”
The C3MC will be inaugurated on January 2, 2026
