OKE-MOSAN, ABEOKUTA – In a historic display of appreciation for the custodians of heritage, His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, officially handed over 40 newly branded luxury SUVs to the Ogun State Council of Obas this afternoon.
The event, held at the Obas’ Complex within the State Secretariat, coincided with ongoing celebrations for the Gateway International Airport, marking April 9, 2026, as a definitive “Year of Miracles” for the state’s traditional leadership.
The atmosphere was one of immense prestige as the Governor arrived to a royal welcome from the paramount rulers and invited dignitaries. Addressing the gathered monarchs, Governor Abiodun emphasized that the gesture was a strategic move to strengthen the administrative capacity of the traditional institution. He noted that for any government to succeed at the grassroots, its traditional rulers must be equipped with the tools necessary to lead with dignity and efficiency.
In his keynote address, Governor Abiodun stated, “Our traditional rulers are the heartbeat of our communities and the primary bridge between the government and the people. This presentation is not just about luxury; it is a deliberate investment in the mobility and security of our fathers. We believe that by enhancing your comfort, we are indirectly enhancing the peace and development of the various domains you preside over.”
The Governor further linked the presentation to the broader success of the state, particularly the milestone achievements at the Gateway International Airport. “As we celebrate the soaring success of our aviation dreams, we must ensure our traditional roots remain firm and well-supported,” he remarked.
“This is a token of our administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the ‘Gateway State’ remains a model of both modern infrastructure and deep-seated cultural respect.”
Governor Abiodun also took the opportunity to reflect on the synergy between the executive and the Council of Obas, describing it as the “gold standard” for governance in Nigeria. He praised the monarchs for their role in maintaining the peace that has allowed his administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda to thrive, promising that more surprises and developmental miracles are on the horizon for the 2026 calendar year.
The presentation of the 40 branded SUVs was met with a standing ovation from the council members, who lauded the Governor for his consistency. This latest move silences critics and reinforces Abiodun’s reputation as a leader who prioritizes the welfare of all stakeholders. The sight of the fleet of vehicles lined up at the Secretariat served as a powerful visual testament to the Governor’s promise to elevate the status of Ogun State’s royal fathers.
As the ceremony concluded, the Governor reaffirmed that his administration would continue to provide the necessary infrastructure and social support to make the traditional office more effective. For the people of Ogun, this event remains a highlight of the week—a moment where history was made through a seamless blend of modern governance and traditional honor, directed by a Governor who truly understands the value of the crown.
