The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting engineering excellence in Nigeria and beyond through continuous, structured Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs.
This commitment was emphasized today by the President and Chairman-in-Council of the NSE, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, who was represented by the Engr Olumayowa Idowu, FNSE during a key presentation at the ongoing Belt and Road Forum on Engineering Capacity Building in Chengdu, China.
Speaking on the theme “Continuous Professional Development of Engineers,” the NSE President showcased the Society’s CPD successes and outlined future plans to further enhance the skills and competence of Nigerian engineers. She positioned the NSE’s model as a benchmark for other institutions, particularly within developing economies, in building future-ready Engineers who are globally competitive.

“In our pursuit of Engineering excellence, structured CPD programs are non-negotiable,” Engr Idowu stated. “They are essential for upholding standards, improving competence, and driving national development.”
A member of Academy Committee of Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO), Idowu who had represented the Society during the historic 2024 aggreement to join IFES at the International Engineering Congress, further emphasized NSE’s openness to global collaboration on CPD initiatives, noting that such partnerships are key to strengthening Engineering capacity worldwide.
“We welcome collaborations with other institutions to develop joint CPD programs and cross-border certifications,” Engr. Idowu noted. “Let us harness the Belt and Road Initiative to foster inclusive partnerships between developing and developed economies — building bridges through knowledge exchange, mutual recognition of certifications, and shared aspirations.”
The Belt and Road Forum on Engineering Capacity Building is a major component of the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, which brings together engineering leaders, policymakers, and professionals from across the globe. The focus is on strategies for enhancing capacity, promoting innovation, and fostering international cooperation through science and technology.

With a robust and forward-thinking CPD framework, the Nigerian Society of Engineers continues to position its members to take the lead in national transformation and global Engineering development.
