As part of activities marking the 83rd birthday anniversary of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the former Secretary to the Ogun State Government and Agba Akin of Egbaland, Chief Taiwo Adeoluwa, has donated a standard table tennis board to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.
The donation, sponsored by Chief Taiwo and Chief Mrs Folashade Adeoluwa, was made to glorify God and commemorate the 83rd birthday of the revered monarch, celebrated on September 14, 2026. It formed part of the activities surrounding the Alake’s 83rd birthday table tennis tournament held at the Ikoyi Club, Lagos, from October 26 to 30, 2026.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the union, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, appreciated Chief Adeoluwa for the thoughtful gesture, describing it as a welcome contribution to the council’s efforts at developing sporting facilities for journalists.
The donation comes at a significant period in the history of Ogun NUJ, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary alongside its Press Week. As part of projects commemorating the golden jubilee, the council is embarking on the development of a modern media resource centre designed to accommodate a sports arena, studio, newsroom and other essential facilities for media professionals.
The proposed facility is expected to provide journalists with an environment that promotes professional development, physical fitness, creativity and collaboration, while also serving as a lasting legacy for present and future generations of media practitioners in the state.
The NUJ Chairman further noted that the donation would complement the council’s vision of creating a functional sports arena within the proposed project, particularly at a time when the union is expanding its focus beyond professional activities to the general welfare and well-being of its members.
The gesture by Chief Adeoluwa is also seen as an expression of support for the media community and a recognition of the important role journalists play in society.
