Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 36-year-old man, Shobande Taofeek, over alleged vandalism and theft of railway infrastructure in the Arigbajo axis of the state.
The arrest also led to the recovery of 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders suspected to be connected with the alleged crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
According to the statement, the arrest followed intelligence reports concerning the alleged vandalism and theft of railway materials in the area.
Babaseyi said SWAT operatives intensified surveillance and patrols in the affected location on October 23, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
He added that the suspect subsequently led the operatives to an uncompleted building, where the stolen items were recovered as exhibits.
The police spokesman further stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in similar offences on three previous occasions.
He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be connected with the crime and recover additional stolen property.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting public assets, safeguarding critical infrastructure and bringing those responsible for vandalism to justice.
The police commissioner also urged residents to provide timely and credible information to assist security agencies in preventing crime and ensuring safer communities across the state.
The command said investigations into the incident were continuing.
