  • FAEO appoints Nigerian engineer, Idowu, to continental capacity development committee* The Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) has named Nigerian engineer and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, among 39 professionals appointed to its Capacity Building Committee for a two-year term. The appointment, confirmed in an official communication dated October 14, 2026, followed an assessment process conducted in accordance with the federation’s Rules of Procedure. FAEO expressed confidence in Idowu’s professional experience and his ability to contribute to initiatives aimed at strengthening engineering capacity and institutional development across Africa. Idowu, a former Chairman of the NSE Abeokuta Branch, currently leads the NSE Branch Chairmen Forum, which brings together branch chairmen from across Nigeria and the diaspora. Beyond his national responsibilities, he serves on a key committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and is a member of its Hackathon Task Force, where he participates in international initiatives promoting engineering innovation, collaboration and professional development. The continental committee, chaired by Eng. Shammah Kiteme Munyoki of Kenya, comprises engineering professionals from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Angola, among other countries. Engr. Abosede Adewole is also representing Nigeria on the committee, which is expected to support FAEO’s efforts to enhance professional competencies, knowledge exchange and engineering capacity development across member countries. Speaking on the appointment, Idowu described it as an opportunity to contribute to Africa’s engineering transformation. “I sincerely appreciate the confidence reposed in me by the leadership of FAEO. This appointment presents another opportunity to promote engineering education, professional excellence and institutional collaboration. I look forward to working with colleagues across the continent to strengthen capacity-building initiatives and expand opportunities for young engineers,” he said. He called for stronger partnerships between academia, industry and professional engineering institutions to address Africa’s technological and skills gaps. “Africa cannot afford to remain behind in a rapidly changing technological world. We must invest in developing a competent, innovative and globally competitive engineering workforce while ensuring that academic training responds to industry needs and emerging technologies,” he stated. The appointment is expected to enhance Nigeria’s participation in continental engineering development efforts, particularly in promoting professional capacity building, technical knowledge sharing and the development of engineering skills required to drive innovation, industrial growth and sustainable development across Africa.

…unveils plans for Ogun-East mega rally

The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), a leading political support group in Ogun State, has inaugurated a 300-member campaign council as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration, held on Saturday at the YPM grounds in Iperu, Ogun State, also formalised the appointment of Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, a two-term member of the House of Representatives as Director-General of the council.

The event was attended by the movement’s apex leaders, state executive members, local government coordinators and other members of the newly inaugurated campaign council.

Speaking at the ceremony, the convener of the movement, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the appointments reflected the appointees’ commitment to the movement and their contributions to its development.

Akintunde explained that the selection of members for the campaign council was not intended to diminish the contributions of other members, but to recognise individuals whose longstanding involvement and commitment had earned them the responsibilities.

He urged the newly inaugurated council members and the Director-General to work together to achieve the movement’s objectives, particularly in grassroots mobilisation, membership expansion and organisational unity.

The convener also announced plans for an upcoming mega rally in Ogun East, alongside inauguration programmes for the movement’s artisan, student, women and youth groups.

He called on committee members, particularly those responsible for mobilisation and local government coordination, to intensify their engagement efforts and promote unity ahead of the planned activities.

In his remarks, the state coordinator of the Movement, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, stressed the importance of strengthening the movement’s presence at the grassroots.

Kaka urged members to engage communities actively and ensure effective coordination at the polling-unit level ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the responsibility of advancing the movement’s political objectives rested on all members, not only the state executive officers and coordinators.

According to him, the movement’s success would depend on the collective efforts of its members to support the candidates it intends to promote in the forthcoming elections.

The Director-General of the campaign council, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, commended Akintunde, the movement’s apex leaders and the state coordinator for their contributions to the group’s growth.

He also offered prayers for the success of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The movement announced the following persons as heads of various committees:

(1) Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde — Finance, Planning and Strategy Committee

(2) Hon. Yakubu Lookman Olanrenwaju — Transport Committee

(3) Hon. Amoje Olajide — Special Duties Committee
