Ogun Youth Leader Hails Minister Olawande Over Historic NYSC Reforms, Urges Tinubu to Retain Him

The Chairman of the Ogun Youth Assembly and Deputy Coordinator of the Cityboy Movement in Ogun State, Habeeb Whyte has commended the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, for what he described as the most comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in over five decades.

In an open letter addressed to the minister on Monday Whyte praised the ongoing transformation of the scheme, describing it as a landmark intervention that has repositioned the NYSC from a routine national service programme into a platform for youth empowerment, skills development, entrepreneurship and national productivity.

He stated that the reforms reflected the minister’s commitment to listening to young Nigerians and implementing policies capable of addressing their long-standing concerns about life after national service.

According to Whyte, his previous interactions with the minister during youth development engagements convinced him that Olawande possesses the passion, vision and determination required to deliver lasting solutions for Nigerian youths.

“Having had the distinct privilege of sharing a table with you and serving closely alongside you on a youth development programme, I have witnessed firsthand what true leadership looks like. I saw it in your eyes — a genuine, restless passion for developmental, everlasting solutions to the challenges facing Nigerian youths”he said.

Whyte noted that after 53 years of the NYSC’s existence, the latest reforms represent the first major overhaul of the scheme, introducing far-reaching changes that prioritise transparency, security, employability and professional development.

He highlighted key components of the reforms, including a fully digital call-up process, security-based deployment of corps members, an expanded six-week orientation programme focusing on leadership and digital skills, skills-based primary assignments, civilian-led administration of the scheme, improved orientation camp standards and a formal graduation ceremony for corps members.

“You have answered the cry of millions of Nigerian youths who have long asked: “What happens after service?”For decades, our generation viewed the NYSC as a routine obligation. Today, through your visionary execution and the political will of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NYSC has been reborn”.

Whyte also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Olawande as Minister of Youth Development, describing the decision as one that has inspired confidence among young Nigerians.

He urged Nigerian youths to embrace and support the reforms, insisting that the success of the new NYSC framework would depend largely on collective ownership and active participation.

“To my fellow Nigerian youths, this is our win. This initiative could only have borne such beautiful fruit because the President put a brilliant, young, and empathetic mind at the helm of our affairs. We must rise up in absolute solidarity, rally behind these reforms, and give our total support to a leadership team that finally sees us, hears us, and designs solutions for us”he stated.

Whyte also appealed to President Tinubu to retain Olawande in his cabinet beyond the current administration, arguing that continuity in youth-focused leadership would ensure the successful implementation and consolidation of the reforms.

, I humbly but passionately appeal that you retain the HonourableMinister, Ayodele Olawande, as a core, irreplaceable part of your team upon re-election.

“I respectfully appeal to Mr President to retain Honourable Ayodele Olawande as a vital member of his team. Visionary reforms require consistency, and sustaining this momentum will guarantee long-term benefits for generations of Nigerian youths,” he said.

The youth leader commended the minister and his team for what he described as their dedication to youth development, expressing confidence that the reforms would usher in a new era for the NYSC and strengthen its contribution to national development.
