Youth leaders in Ogun Waterside Local Government, under the umbrella of the JFA Youth Vanguard, on Saturday held a strategic engagement with the member representing Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, over key developmental concerns affecting the area.
The meeting, held at Adegbesan’s residence in Awa, focused on issues ranging from the delay in electricity restoration to the national grid, youth employment and empowerment, to the abandoned General Hospital project in Imakun-Omi, Ward 9.
Speaking during the engagement, Hon. Simeon Olu Okeowo identified critical challenges confronting residents of Ogun Waterside and called for practical interventions to improve living conditions in the area. He also underscored the vast economic and natural resources in the local government, noting that proper harnessing of the area’s potential could significantly contribute to Ogun State’s economic growth.
Also speaking, Obipehin Kayode urged the lawmaker to intensify support for constituents through sustainable empowerment initiatives capable of delivering long-term value, rather than temporary relief programmes.
In his contribution, Comrade Shittu Adebayo expressed concern over the abandoned Federal hospital project in Imakun-Omi, describing it as a vital infrastructure that requires urgent government attention to improve access to healthcare for residents.
The Public Relations Officer of the JFA Youth Vanguard, Comrade Obipehin Adeniyi Ibraheem, commended Adegbesan for what he described as his support for the people and leadership style. Hon. Adams Azeez and Comrade Lekan Mustapha also raised issues affecting development in Ogun Waterside, urging prompt action on critical needs in the council area.
Responding, Adegbesan attributed delays in the execution of some constituency projects, including electricity restoration, to bureaucratic bottlenecks, but assured constituents that efforts were ongoing to address the challenges.
The federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and pledged to intensify efforts toward delivering more democratic dividends across the constituency.
He thanked the people of Ogun Waterside for their continued support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them of improved service delivery and plans to roll out more impactful youth-focused empowerment programmes.
As part of the engagement, Hon. Simeon Olu Okeowo, convener of the OKII Political Movement, donated campaign souvenirs in support of Adegbesan’s second-term ambition.
The meeting highlighted growing calls for responsive leadership, stronger grassroots engagement and sustained commitment to development in Ogun Waterside Local Government.
