
As part of activities marking the 2026 Engineering Week, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, engaged the ICAN Abeokuta District in a thrilling friendly football match at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) pitch, Abeokuta.
The match was officially kicked off by the Chairman of NSE Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, in a show of camaraderie and sportsmanship between professionals from the Engineering and Accounting sectors.
The event attracted notable dignitaries, including the Chairman of ICAN Abeokuta District, Mrs. Olufemi Olubukola, FCA, and the Director at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Olanrewaju Apampa, FNSE, among other distinguished guests.
The first half saw a dominant performance from the NSE Abeokuta team, popularly known as the Gateway Engineers Football Team, who raced to a commanding 6–2 lead at halftime. The ICAN Abeokuta team responded strongly in the second half following key substitutions, turning the game into an exciting end-to-end contest.
At the final whistle, the highly competitive and entertaining encounter ended 8–4 in favour of NSE Abeokuta, leaving players and spectators thrilled by the high-scoring match.
Beyond the scoreline, the friendly fixture underscored the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and physical fitness among professionals, while strengthening the bond between Engineers and Accountants in Ogun State.
