The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Bayelsa Chapter, recently hosted a significant public lecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Federal University Otuoke, centered on the critical issue of clean energy. The event was part of the chapter’s ongoing mission to promote sustainable energy solutions while inspiring the next generation of engineers to embrace innovation and excellence.

In collaboration with the AJOES (Ann Jonathan Obuebite Engineering Scholars) Award, APWEN Bayelsa continued its tradition of rewarding academic excellence through the Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship Award 2.0. This year, three exceptional students from the Faculty of Engineering were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.

Among the awardees was Miss Sharon Onyedikachi Ejuh, a 400-Level student with an impressive CGPA of 4.74, who received a ₦150,000 cash prize from the AJOES Foundation. Also honored were Miss Preye Shallom Albert, a 400-Level student of Mechatronics Engineering with a CGPA of 4.46, awarded ₦120,000, and Miss Oghenasomi Louisa Momodu, a 400-Level student in Petroleum and Gas Engineering with a CGPA of 4.42, who was presented with ₦100,000.

In addition to the top three awards, consolation prizes of ₦50,000 were given to the 4th, 5th, and 6th place winners from the departments of Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering.

The event was led by Engr. Amalate Ann-Jonathan Obuebite, PhD FNSE, Chairman of APWEN Bayelsa Chapter, who emphasized, “Our mission is to empower women in engineering and drive sustainable development. Today, we reaffirm that commitment. The AJOES Award honours students who embody excellence. To our students, you’re the future. Pursue excellence, drive change, and lead with purpose. APWEN Bayelsa is committed to supporting you every step of the way.”

The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking public lecture delivered by Engr. Dr. Jenny Fawei, a renowned expert in Power Engineering, on the topic “Clean Energy for a Brighter Future”. Her lecture provided vital insights into sustainable energy solutions and motivated students to pursue innovation in their engineering careers, emphasizing the need for energy professionals to lead the charge in creating a greener, more sustainable future.

This event reaffirmed APWEN Bayelsa Chapter’s unwavering commitment to empowering young women in engineering, celebrating academic excellence, and shaping the future of engineering in Nigeria. The chapter’s continued efforts serve as a beacon of inspiration, motivating the next generation of female engineers to reach new heights in both their professional and academic pursuits.
