…Rector Appeals for re-enlistment of GAPOSA as a beneficiary of Tetfund

Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic Saapade has held a combined Convocation Ceremony comprising three different sets, namely, Graduates of 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2023/2024 where the Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun Doled out cash gift of 2 million naira each to the three overall best graduating students of each set.

The Ogun state Governor, who doubled as the visitor to the institution was represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele who laid the foundation for the proposed GAPOSA School of Agriculture
describing the rector’s innovations as historic for an ICT Polytechnic to appreciate the role ICT plays in modern Agricultural practices and take the bold step of expanding the Institution’s horizon.

The governor also Commended the achievements made so far by the management and governing council of GAPOSA over the years saying it has carved a niche for the school as one of the fastest growing tertiary institutions of learning and exposed to it to global world which reaffirmed the reputation of Ogun as the education capital of Nigeria.

According to the governor, “Today is a special day, not only for the graduating students but also for this institution, which continues to demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence and the development of skilled professionals who are ready to make meaningful contributions to our society.

“I begin by congratulating the Chairman of the Governing Council Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi; members of the Governing Council; the Rector, Dr. Kehinde Sanni; management, staff; students; and the entire Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Sapade community on this 5th Combined Convocation Ceremony. I also extend a warm welcome to our distinguished guests and parents who are here to celebrate this momentous occasion.

“This ceremony reminds us that education is both a journey and a transformation. It is not just about acquiring knowledge or earning certificates; it is about shaping minds, building character, and empowering individuals to make a positive impact on society. As Aristotle wisely said, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” Education’s true purpose is to nurture responsible citizens who contribute to the well-being of others—a principle that resonates deeply as we celebrate this day of growth and achievement.

“I am proud to note the remarkable strides Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Sapade, has achieved over the years. This institution has carved a niche for itself as a center of academic excellence, not just in Nigeria but across Africa. Such accomplishments reaffirm Ogun State’s reputation as the “Education Capital of Nigeria.”

“As a government, we view education as a cornerstone of our development agenda. Since May 2019, we have prioritized education as part of our “Building Our Future Together” initiative. Through this commitment, we have invested in infrastructure, human capacity development, and policies that ensure qualitative and accessible education for all.

“Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Sapade, exemplifies this vision. The institution has achieved full re-accreditation of all 43 of its programs by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Initiatives such as the automation of the library, the resolution of power supply challenges with a 1650kVA generator, and staff development programs reflect the dedication to creating a conducive environment for learning and innovation.”

“In addition, our administration approved ₦200 million for the State Education Trust Fund to support our state-owned tertiary institutions. These efforts underscore our commitment to fostering an education system that equips students with the skills they need to excel in an ever-changing world.”

On his part, The Rector of Gateway ( ICT ) Polytechnic Saapade, Dr. Kehinde Sanni commended the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his commitment and support to the development of the institution in the area of generous allocation of resources which has continued to enhance academic excellence and also appreciated the governing council for standing by and prompt response at all time.

According to Dr Sanni Kehinde ” Like Oliver Twist, I will like to use this opportunity to appeal to His excellency, The executive Governor of Ogun state, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun,CON to assist in the re-enlistment of our Polytechnic as a beneficiary of Tetfund. This to a large extent will promote greater infrastructure and human capital development in the Polytechnic.
Provision of students’ hostel accommodation, construction of ultra modern library, provision of utility buses for students and members of staff, construction of 5000 sitting capacity auditorium and Construction of Access/Link Road within the Campus.”

The guest lecturer, Prof Fashina Abayomi, explained that graduating from GAPOSA marked the beginning of professional journey for the graduating students and enjoined them to remember that the knowledge and skills acquired in the institution are not just academic accomplishments, but the foundation to attain greater height out there. He added that as a graduate of Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, they have been equipped to navigate change to practical expertise and innovation, must therefore embrace challenges as opportunity for growth because their contributions wherever they find themselves will shape the future of Nigeria’s economy.
