Ahead of the 2025 budget, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration will continue to exercise fiscal responsibility, through public financial management reforms, with a view to building strong institutions that will promote accountability and transparency.

Governor Abiodun made this known in his address at the Treasury Board Meeting on Year 2025 to 2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the 2025 Budget, stating that the framework was not only a testament to financial prudence but also a roadmap for sustainable development, job creation, and poverty reduction.

The state helmsman, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, noted that the gathering stands as a significant evidence to the present administration’s commitment to inclusivity and adherence to best practices in preparing the state Budget document.

He stated that though the global economy faces persistent inflation, supply chain disruptions and geopolitical tensions, pointing out that the state government still made substantial growth in key sectors, while the resilience of the domestic economy also provides a robust foundation for the even development being witnessed in the state.

According to him, ‘’Our state’s economy was interlinked with national and global economic trends. As we review the 2025 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), we emphasised our government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, focusing on investment priorities that will drive sustainable growth and long-term prosperity’’.

He stressed that road infrastructure was pivotal to economic growth, connecting businesses to markets and citizens to opportunities, such as the Kajola Inland Dry Port project, while the the reconstruction of the Abeokuta-Ota Federal Highway was essential for the connectivity and growth of our state, adding that his government had made huge investments in technology, patrol vehicles, and other essential equipment, with increased funding to the security forces, to foster public trust by creating a secured environment for every resident.

Speaking on the importance of enhancing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to fund projects and budget through technology and streamlining tax collection, Abiodun noted that there was opportunity to unlock the full potential of the state’s economy for growth, towards reducing dependence on federal allocation, enjoining stakeholders to unite and continue to support the government in achieving more prosperous state.

Earlier in his remarks, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, said Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration focuses on impactful sustainable initiatives that would bring about economic growth and development in the state, promising that no sector would be left at the expense of others in the delivery of good governance, urging all stakeholders to work together in accomplishing principles of transparency and accountability.

The Commissioner revealed that the state’s final budget would reflect gross concession and alignment with its sustainable growth and development, noting that involvement of the 20 Local Government Areas in the budget process was to leverage their strength for progress.
