President of the Maritime Branch of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), Comrade Akin Bodunde, is set to be honoured with a Trailblazer Leadership Award at a ceremony scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Presken Hotel & Resort, Ikeja, Lagos.
The award, according to the organisers, recognises Bodunde’s “distinctive leadership style, reform-driven engagements and exceptional contributions” to the development of the maritime labour space.
In a statement on Tuesday, the award committee described Bodunde as “one of the most impactful union leaders in the nation’s maritime sector whose commitment to workers’ welfare and institutional growth has remained exemplary.”
The ceremony, expected to attract labour leaders, industry stakeholders and senior government officials, will also feature the recognition of several other distinguished personalities.
Other awardees include labour advocate Comrade Buni Abbey, religious leader Primate Oluwarotinmi Dada, His Royal Majesty Adekunle Adebayo, and Controller Frank Onyeka, among others.
Bodunde, who is widely regarded in labour circles as a reform-minded administrator, said the honour represents “a call to do more for the maritime workforce and the nation at large.”
“I am humbled by this recognition. It is a testament to the resilience and unity of maritime workers who continue to support positive change,” he said.
The organisers added that the award seeks to encourage excellence, integrity and sustained service among leaders across labour, traditional institutions and public service.
