Ogun Celebrates World Teachers Day, as Abiodun describes Teaching as Foundation Of All Profession

Teachers have been described as the first enablers and the foundation of all other professions, therefore making education the cornerstone of every nation’s development.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun made this known during the 2025 World Teachers Day Celebration, with theme, Recasting Teaching as a Collaborating Profession, held at the Cultural Center , Kuto, Abeokuta.

According to the Governor, the theme challenges everyone to reimagine the teaching space as one built on teamwork, mentorship, shared learning and mutual support, adding that it calls to mind the fact that teaching is not an isolated endeavor, but a collective mission that draws strength from cooperation amongst teachers themselves, parents, communities and government.

Represented by his Deputy Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun revealed that Education extends beyond the classroom, helping in shaping values, vision and vitality of entire generations, stressing that it is the reason, his administration continues to make significant investment in the education sector under the “Building Our Future Together Agenda”.

The state’s Helmsman while Appreciating all the teachers Union in the State, informed that as a government, he remained proud of the measurable contribution of those in the teaching profession to the collective progress of the state, revealing that this was why his administration laid premium on investment in teacher welfare, digital competence, professional training and infrastructural development all in alignment with global Best Practices worldwide.

He charged those present that in celebrating, The World Teachers Day, they should remember that the prosperity of Ogun State rests on their shoulders, promising to continue to support its teachers with the tools, ammenities and conducive environment they need to thrive, saying only with this can the Future of our Children be secured, whilst also building a more enlightened and prosperous Ogun state.

Earlier in his welcome address, Ogun State Commissioner for Education, science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said that Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration appreciated their efforts, as well as recognises the fact that they are the one that help build a strong nation, assuring teachers In the state that the present administration would continue to prioritise their welfare.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu and his counterpart in the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, congratulated all teachers in the state on the occasion of the 2025 World teacher’s day, urging them to continue to work as a team, share strategies and resources, connect globally through training and technology and partner with parents, communities and government.

The duo referred to teachers as the backbone of our education system, who shape the future of generations, silent architects of progress and the torchbearers of civilisation, assuring of Governments continued commitment to prioritising their welfare alongside providing them with the needed support, all with a view at ensuring quality education is delivered at all levels, thanking Governor Dapo Abiodun for making education the engine room for transformation in the state.

The State Chairman Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT) Comrade Sewakanu Oladipupo and his colleague in the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, in their separate addresses, described teachers as nation builders, appreciating the state government for fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between it and its teachers, additionally placing the state on the world map via various initiatives in the education sector.

While commending the state Government on the its developmental strides sector, such as the provision of digital and modern classrooms, timely payment of salaries and allowances, giving priority to teachers welfare, training and retraining of Teachers, they urged the Government to consider putting in place special Incentives such as provisions for teachers who lost their lives while in service, Education Trust Funds to cater for Out of school children and E-lesson note’s for teachers in line with evolving trends in Sector.
