
Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, a staff member of Africa’s largest television network, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, has been honored with the prestigious Young Professional Excellence Award for Leadership by the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO).
The award was presented by the President of FAEO, Eng. Refilwe Buthelezi, at the 11th UNESCO – Africa Engineering Week and 9th African Engineering Conference, held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda.

The theme of the conference, “Leveraging Engineering Innovations and Technology to Accelerate Africa’s Socio-Economic Transformation,” set the stage for the recognition of young leaders across the continent who are driving change within the engineering sector.
Engr. Idowu, the youngest Chairman of NSE Abeokuta, was selected for this award after a rigorous screening process, which considered nominees from Professional Engineering Institutions across Africa. His leadership and dedication to the advancement of engineering in Nigeria and Africa have set him apart as a trailblazer in the field.
An elated Engr. Idowu said, “I am deeply humbled and honored to receive the Young Professional Excellence Award for Leadership from the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO). To be recognized among such esteemed leaders in the engineering sector is a testament to the collective effort of my colleagues, mentors, and the entire Nigerian Society of Engineers. This award is not just for me but for everyone who has supported our vision and work in advancing the engineering profession in Nigeria and Africa. It is a reminder of the responsibility we carry as young professionals to drive positive change, inspire innovation, and contribute to the socio-economic transformation of our communities. I am truly grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing to make meaningful contributions in the engineering field.”

I appreciate the President of NSE, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE for her guidance and support, and for providing space for young engineers to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the profession.
I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Director-General of NTA, Dembos Sambo, and the Executive Director of Engineering at NTA, Engr. Sadique Omeiza, for their continuous support and encouragement, which has been instrumental in my journey.
Under Engr. Idowu’s leadership, NSE Abeokuta has achieved remarkable milestones. His tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including his active role in advancing the development of young professionals and the promotion of innovative engineering solutions.
Engr. Idowu is an alumnus of the Public Leadership Programme of AIG Imoukhuede at the University of Oxford and serves as an active member of the Academy Committee of FAEO. Additionally, he holds the position of Chairman of NSE’s Programmes, Branding, Publicity, and Media Relations Committee, further showcasing his influence and commitment to shaping the future of the Engineering profession.
The Young Professional Excellence Award recognizes young leaders who inspire change, mobilize teams, and deliver impactful Engineering solutions that address socio-economic challenges. Engr. Idowu’s receipt of this award underscores his continued contributions to the engineering profession and his unwavering commitment to the development of both the Engineering community and society at large.
