Ogun Deputy Governor Mourns As Awujale Dies At 91

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele FNSE, has paid tribute to the monarch the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona who passed away at the age of 91.

The deputy Governor in a message personally signed described the referred monarch as “a royal father like no other, bold, principled, and fiercely devoted to the progress of his people.”

She prayed that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The demise of Awujale was announced on Sunday, July 13, 2025, by the Ogun State Government.

Oba Adetona died after a remarkable reign of 65 years, leaving behind a legacy that has significantly shaped Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigeria.

Born on May 10, 1934, into the Royal House of Anikinaiya of Ijebuland, Oba Adetona ascended the throne in 1960, marking the beginning of a transformative era for Ijebuland.

Throughout his reign, he was a beacon of unity, cultural preservation, and progressive development. His dedication to the welfare of his people was evident in his efforts to foster educational advancements, healthcare improvements, and economic growth within the state and Nigeria.

Oba Adetona’s passing comes barely hours after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, marking a profound loss for Nigeria. His legacy will be remembered for generations to come, and his impact on traditional leadership in Nigeria will be deeply missed.
