…Prof. Olomu Describes All Allegations Against him as Frivolous
The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta is gearing up for a significant milestone achievements as the institution prepares for the commissioning of new facilities on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
The Minister of State for Health and other dignitaries from all walks of life are expected to attend the ceremony, which promises to be a grand affair.
At a press conference, the Medical Director Prof. Abdul Semiu Musa-Olomu, took journalists through the journey of his transformative ideas of 9-point agenda, his mission to transform FMCA to a teaching hospital, which can only be achieved by establishing a university, which he conceived with the name Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta ( FUMMSA)
He highlighted his efforts in establishing FUMMSA from conceptualization to securing land and support from traditional leaders and politicians.
This achievement is particularly significant for the Egba people, who had lost the advantage before.
Prof. Olomu proudly declared that he has “taken the Egba people to the promised land” with the establishment of FUMMSA, urging for merit at all public spaces.
The Medical Director showcased the hospital’s achievements over the past eight years, including the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment purchased to different departments in the hospital to make the institution a one stop hospital with provision of mammogram machine, X-ray machines, cardiovascular machines and other gadgets.
He emphasized his commitment to improving healthcare services in the region. From revitalizing the radiology department, bringing up the best cardiothoracic experts, with 40 percent open – heart surgery rating throughout the country, equipping the physiotherapy department, with modern equipments, constructing new infrastructure for well being of the staffs and patients and introduction of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), internal roads construction among others.
Prof.Olomu’s leadership had offered employment for many that would have been forgotten and ensuring job satisfaction for his staffs by putting their welfare at paramount.
Meanwhile the commissioning ceremony will feature naming some structures within the hospital after some individuals who have been instrumental to the development of FMC Abeokuta and it will also showcase some outstanding members of stafff with recognition of their contributions.
The press conference also provided an opportunity for the Medical Director to address allegations made by some groups, clarifying misconceptions and providing detailed explanations for his actions, demonstrating transparency and accountability.
With the commissioning just around the corner, the FMC Abeokuta’s community is with excitement. The event promises to mark a new chapter in the institution’s history, solidifying its position as a leading healthcare provider in the region.
