The Ogun Waterside Local Government Branch of the Teaching Service Commission, on Thursday, honoured a philanthropist and community development advocate, Obipehin Kayode, popularly known as Kaymoni, with the Education Advocate Award.
The award was presented during a one-day seminar and award ceremony held at the Abigi Town Hall.
The Commission said the award was in recognition of Kaymoni’s consistent contribution to educational development in Ogun Waterside.
TESCOM described him as selfless, committed and passionate about youth empowerment, especially through education.
Kaymoni has, over the years, supported several initiatives benefiting students and teachers across the local government area. His recent sponsorship of students and teachers to the Olympiad Mathematics Competition at the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, was cited as one of many of his interventions aimed at boosting academic performance.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kaymoni thanked the organisers for the honour and reiterated his commitment to prioritising the welfare of his people.
He said, “I appreciate the Ogun Waterside Branch of TESCOM for this recognition. Education remains a vital tool for fighting poverty and building a sane, prosperous society. I will continue to support causes that uplift my people, particularly in the education sector.”
He also commended the initiative behind the award and seminar, urging others to get involved in nation-building through education and social development.
“Teachers are nation builders. We must do more to support them if we want a better future,” he added.
The event was attended by TESCOM officials, community leaders, teachers, students, and other stakeholders.
