…Calls For More Logistical Support Towards Safety, Protection

In the interest of bringing lasting security and protection to lives and property around the Sagamu Interchange, the Ogun State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, held a one day interactive stakeholders session at the Interchange with the theme: “Upscaling Security at the Sagamu Interchange and Environ:Issues, Challenges and Way Forward”.
This all-important move, by the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, is to redefine and consolidate accessible security around the Sagamu Interchange and its environs to the extent of bringing lasting succour to the users and plyers of the vicinities.

Commandant Ekundayo in her speech, noted that the Sagamu Interchange is very key to the security agencies in terms of safety of lives and property and that it is equally germane to work hand in hand to ensure all lives around the vicinity are adequately secured against hoodlums, kidnappers, bandits, armed robbers amongst others.
Furthermore, she expressed her desire for a people-centred security around the Sagamu Interchange of which can only be realized through this sort of fora wherein all stakeholders and concerned individuals, corporate bodies and others bear their minds in establishing a true security around the interchange.
In her words, “The Sagamu Interchange is strategic gates connecting Ogun, Oyo, Lagos and Ondo States thereby playing a pivotal role in economic and social mobility.”
However, it has become a flashpoint for various security breaches including vandalism, armed robbery, kidnapping and other notorious acts of violence
As the agency incharge of protecting critical national assets, the NSCDC has established an Operational Tactical Base at the Sagamu Interchange working closely with other security agencies to ensure robust surveillance and effective intervention.
To this end, we urge Stakeholders to support the Operational Tactical Base through timely reporting, undelayed intelligence information, provision of patrol vans and logistical support. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining a secured environment.
She further seeks out total commitment towards actionable strategies including enhancing intelligence sharing, scaling up community policing and improving logistical capacity.
More so, the NSCDC remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives, properties and critical infrastructure. We look forward to fruitful deliberations and practical solutions” she submitted.
The Zonal Commander, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Zone 1 Headquarters, Lagos ACG Olusola Michael Akibo ably represented by Commandant Abidemi Majekodunmi, advised that a proactive solution and joint efforts be dispatched for a permanent solution in the interchange due to its definition of being a convergence of routes, people, events amongst others.

The representative of the Zonal Commander also informed the gathering of the need to bring security to the interchange beyond rivalry amongst security agencies which will yield more than the expected results.
While giving his speech, the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, who was ably represented by his Special Adviser on Security, AIG. Olusola Subair Rtd., said, “the move by the Ogun NSCDC is an intelligent and proactive one to arrest and bring insecurity to an end in the Sagamu Interchange.”

He also advised on the cooperation of all stakeholders around the Sagamu Interchange including: community leaders, corporate organizations, traditional institutions amongst others to join hands towards creating a lasting security around the Sagamu Interchange.
Going further, the Special Adviser informed the gathering of the interest of the State Government at ensuring complete security in and around the Sagamu Interchange and indeed Ogun State.
Dignitaries at the event include: the State Director, Department of State Services, Peter Afunaya PhD; the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo PhD ably represented by ACP.Alabi S. Akintunde; the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Commander Fasakin; Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brigadier General Godwin Ugochukwu Nwamba mni ably represented by Captain FC Ungebu.
Other Stakeholders and personalities include: Hon. Kayode Dipeolu, Secretary to the Local Government, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area representing the Chairman; Mr. Oladapo Soneye, Corporate Affairs Manager, International Breweries; Chief Oyename Adekunle, Vigilante Service Group; Comrade Olugbenga Kazeem, NARTO; Ibidun Abiodun, New Hope Agriculture and Technology; Ibeh Victoria, Goodbrands Nigeria Limited; Nola Abiodun, Sagamu; Kingsley Iwuoha, Vpeg Energy and Gas.

In the same vein, the event had the honour of hosting these Stakeholders as well: Mr. Oluseyi Oyewole, Green Apple Limited; Mr. Lawal Ayoola, NITONG; Mr. Abiola Ayodele, Flex Films; Mr. Matthew Ori-Oke, Apple and Pears.

The programme did not also come to an end until the Special Guest of Honour commissioned the vehicle donated by V-Peg Energy and Gas for the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Operational Tactical Base.
