
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, has expressed deep condolences to the Ogun State Government, the affected families, and the Mayigi Community Comprehensive School, Ilase, over the tragic incident caused by a freak weather event. The unfortunate occurrence resulted in the loss of a student’s life, injuries to several others, and significant damage to the school building.
In a letter addressed to the Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Education, the NSE Abeokuta Branch, led by its Chairman, Engr. Olumayowa Idowu, FNSE, conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and the school community. The Society also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the state government in assessing the structural integrity of public school buildings, particularly older structures, to prevent future disasters.
Recognizing the Ogun State Government’s dedication to education and student safety, the NSE called for collaboration in conducting structural assessments and offering expert recommendations. The Engineers emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure that learning environments are resilient against environmental hazards.
The letter concluded with a pledge from the NSE Abeokuta Branch to engage further with the government on this crucial matter, ensuring the safety and well-being of students across the state.
