
Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed deep sadness, over the passing of Dr. Doyin Okupe, a renowned politician and former presidential spokesperson, who died on Friday, 7 March, 2025, at the age of 72.
Amosun, in a statement, described Dr. Okupe as an illustrious son of Iperu, Ogun State, whose foray into politics came into prominence as National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC) in the run up to the June 12, 1993 elections. He went on to have a rich, distinguished and purposeful career as a politician.
The former governor celebrates the great impact the deceased made as official spokesperson to two Nigerian Presidents – Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, and former Director-General of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign adding that Dr. Okupe will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to whatever he believed in.
Senator notes that Ogun State as a people, have lost a fine citizen who made remarkable impact in diverse spheres of human endeavour.
Amosun, while condoling with the Okupe family, particularly the widow and children, he left behind, prayed that the Almighty God will grant Dr. Doyin Okupe eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear his irreparable loss.
