A Real estate entrepreneur and the CEO Pelican Valley Nigerian Limited Ambassador (Dr.) Babatunde Adeyemo has demanded the sum of 50million naira as compensation for loss of data and rebuilding of same in the laptop that saved his life from a Customs officer shot.

The legal counsel Barr. Ogugbara in his petition to the Comptroller, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos State also demanded the replacement of Adeyemo’s Benz G.L450, either in cash or in a befitting substitute.

He however warned that if his client’s demands were not met, he shall not hesitate to initiate legal action against the Nigeria Customs Service.

Recalled that Adeyemo vehicle was shot at by personnel of the Customs service along the Imasayi-Abeokuta road on December 8th, only to be prevented from being hit by a laptop in the car.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in his response says the agency is committed to professionalism and discipline, adding that the said personnel has since been apprehended and awaiting proper sanctions.

The Customs Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, CSC Theophilus Duniya in a statement said the command frowned at incidents of misconduct and has launched a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter.

According to CSC Duniya, the officer involved in the shooting incident has been identified and currently in detention.

Duniya noted that, in line with Customs’ commitment to professionalism and discipline, Comptroller Kola Oladeji of Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja has also ordered immediate replacement of the damaged laptop and repair of the damaged vehicle.

He stressed that the prompt response of the service demonstrates Customs’ dedication to making amends and ensuring that such incidents are thoroughly addressed.
