The Ogun State Commander of the State Security Network Agency – Amotekun Corps, Brigadier-General Alade Adedigba (Rtd.) has disclosed plans to boost public confidence in the security apparatus by enhancing effectiveness in securing the lives and property of the citizens and fostering a secure environment for economic growth along the Ogun axis of the Lagos-Ibadan express way,

This initiative was disclosed during a pivotal meeting with stakeholders held recently in Ogere at the palace conference hall of Ologere of Ogere, Oba James Obafemi Saliu.

Speaking on the initiative at the stakeholders meeting of community leaders, law enforcement officials, traditional chiefs, and other ethic representatives, Brig-Gen. Adedigba emphasized the urgency of addressing rising security concerns in border communities with the aim of deterring criminal activities such as kidnapping and robbery along that corridor.

“Having witnessed various security challenges along Lagos-Ibadan expressway corridor and Ogere axis, it becomes quite imperative that we take proactive measures in our determination to safeguard our people and also foster a secure environment to bolster economic growth in that area and the State at large,” he stated.

The Commander, who highlighted the importance of community involvement in the security framework, disclosed that the proposed Security Marshals will consist of trained volunteers, especially from the local communities, who will work in collaboration with Amotekun corps and other security agencies to monitor and secure border areas.

“We believe that the people who live in these areas have the best understanding of their environment. Therefore, the proposed marshals’ participation will not only empower them but create a more integrated approach to security, as they serve as eyes and ears of our security operations, enabling us to respond swiftly to any threats that may arise,” Adedigba explained.

In addition to tackling the incessant security breaches, the Amotekun Chief disclosed the readiness of the State government to recruit more personnel, procure additional patrol vans, as well as communication gadgets to strengthen and improve operational efficiency of the Corps.

Recapping all reactions from participants, the Executive Secretary,Ologere in-Council, Otunba Adeolu Idowu, welcomed the initiative of policing the border towns along Lagos-Ibadan expressway corridor, especially Ogere town, stressing that local involvement in security matters would foster trust and cooperation among residents and enforcement agencies.

He said, “It’s a step in the right direction. We need to feel safe in our homes and communities, and engaging locals in this way will greatly help deter crime and promote safer environment”.

He further advised that residents should synergize with security operatives by providing useful information about anything of public interest towards ensuring that borders remain protected and communities thrive in peace.

In the face of ongoing security challenges, the Ogun Amotekun’s proactive approach marks a significant commitment to community-oriented policing and enhanced collaboration committed to the safety and security of Ogun State.
