Deaf Author, Dr William Olubodun Installed as Patron of African Church

In an historic and heartwarming ceremony, Dr. William Olubodun, a prominent Deaf indigene of Abeokuta,Ogun State was installed as the Patron of The African Church Ilawo Archdeaconry Women’s Leagues.

The event, which took place at The African Church in Ilawo, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital on saturday 10 August, 2024 marked a significant milestone in the recognition of the contributions of the Deaf community within the church and the wider society.

Dr. William Olubodun, who holds a PhD and is well-known for his tireless advocacy for the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities, especially the Deaf, was celebrated for his outstanding service and dedication. His installation as Patron,The African Church Ilawo Archdeaconry Women’s Leagues is not only a recognition of his personal achievements but also a testament to the growing awareness and inclusion of persons with disabilities in leadership roles within religious and social institutions.

The ceremony was attended by a diverse gathering of clergy, community leaders, members of the Women’s Leagues, and representatives from various organizations that support the Deaf community.

The atmosphere was filled with joy and reverence as attendees witnessed the historic moment.

In his acceptance speech, delivered through sign language with the help of an interpreter, Dr. Olubodun expressed his deep gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him. He emphasized the importance of unity, love, and service in the church and society at large.

He also highlighted the need for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in all spheres of life and encouraged the Women’s Leagues to continue their good works with renewed vigor.

The Diocesan and Archbishop of The African Church Ogun Province II, Right Reverend Solomon Omoniyi Ojumu who presided over the installation, praised Dr. Olubodun’s unwavering commitment to the service of God and his exemplary character.

He noted that Dr. Olubodun’s leadership as Patron would inspire the Women’s Leagues to reach greater heights in their mission to serve the church and the community better.

The event concluded with a reception at the new Patron resident in Obantoko Abeokuta where guests had the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Olubodun and share in the celebration of this remarkable achievement.

The installation of Dr. William Olubodun as Patron of The African Church Ilawo Archdeaconry Women’s Leagues is a proud moment for Abeokuta and a powerful reminder of the valuable contributions that all members of society, regardless of ability, can make to the community.

Chief Dr William Olugbemi Joel Olubodun Retired as a Senior Immigration Services Officer in the United States of America,He came to Nigeria and venture into Agriculture, he is Author of book titled The Odyssey of A Deaf Farm Boy and was first Installed as President of The African Church, Jooda Parish on November 20, 2021.
