OGSG RESTATES COMMITMENT TO MATERNAL, CHILD HEALTH

In an effort to improve maternal and child health, Ogun State government says it will continue to strengthen different areas of its health system towards reducing incidence of deaths caused as a result of pregnancy-related complications and malnutrition.

Commissioner for Health Dr. Tomi Coker gave this assurance, while declaring open a 2-day workshop for Birth Attendants in the state, at the June 12, Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Coker stated that the present administration had embarked on various healthcare schemes such as ‘Ibidero’ that provides free services for pregnant women, availability of ambulances and tricycles to cater for emergencies, as well as renovation of Primary Health Centers (PHCs) with equipment.

The Commissioner enjoined Birth Attendants to adhere strictly to rules and regulation guiding their conducts, adding that they should endeavour to make referrals when necessary.

Speaking, the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, expressed government’s determination to improve the health status of the people, saying synergy between the Board, PHCs and Birth Attendants had enhanced support for pregnant women.

On her part, the guest speaker, Prof. (Mrs.) Eniabitobi Kuyinu, said it was important to boost the knowledge of Birth Attendants frequently, to enable them work in line with the global best practices.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola , congratulates the association State Birth Attendants and commended their co-operation with the government to standardize their sector and appreciated the State government for providing platform for the practitioners to development them selves in line with internationa practice as the world is going back to the days of natural medicine.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary/Registrar, State Alternate Medicine Board, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, commended the turnout of participants and appreciated the present administration uplifting Alternate Medicine practice, partner to ensure quality safety delivery of mother and children in the state.
