In order to Ameliorate the effects of the harsh economic situation on the less privileged, the 2002 set of Mayflower Secondary School, Ikenne on Saturday August 26th, distributed food items and relief materials to no fewer than 50 people during a program tagged ‘ WALK A THON” in opebi community area of ikeja Lagos state.

In a statement by the chairperson, Mrs Bukky Oyeti and the social director, Sade Anjou, the charitable gesture which was done under the umbrella of ’02 set of Ex May was carried out because members suggested that aside the usual donation and building of facility to their Alma mater , there is need to take the charitable gesture beyond the school for the benefits of the downtroddens.

According to the statement “As part of our efforts and commitment towards building a better society and as well to put smiles on the faces of the downtrodden, the 2002 set of old students association of Mayflower Secondary School Ikenne in Ogun State resonates the spirit of giving through their alma mater by presenting food and relief items to no fewer than 50 beneficiaries.

They noted that the beauty of service and Spirit of giving only radiates when one serves from the heart with small and continuous acts of love and kindness.

“It is a general believe that Alumni and old students associations are created to help graduates reconnect, network, create lasting relationships and give back to their alma maters by improving its human, infrastructure, and financial capital.”

“Often times, this associations through their ingenuity provides facelifting development to their Alma mater but the ex-may 02 set have taken it beyond the school premises by extending hands of love to unknown Street bearers in need flying the name of their their school Mayflower”

Speaking further , they maintained that the move by the Ex-May 02 was to inspire other sets in creating hope which is a powerful call to action that echoes the transformative mindset of the founder of Mayflower Secondary School, Tai and Sheila Solarin in 1956.

The Beneficiaries were delighted as they received the food packs.

Other executives and members of the Set therefore noted that the event Organised by 2002 Students of Mayflower Secondary School Ikenne has again showcased the power of a united group working towards a common goal by spreading kindness to people.
