The Nigeria Union of Journalists , Ogun State Council received with shock the news of the death of Dr Samuel Ibiyemi, Publisher of the Nigerian NewsDirect in the afternoon of Tuesday, 4th of July, 2023.
In a statement jointly signed by the chairman Comrade Wale Olanrewaju and the Secretary Comrade Bunmi Adigun described the death of the veteran journalist as painful as he left when his expertise is needed most.
Dr Ibiyemi was a navigator for so many upcoming journalists and provided his firm as a source of employment for many interested journalists and non-journalists.
The statement added further the Union thought he would survive the brief illness which took his life at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State but since it has pleased God to call him home now, we pray God Almighty give the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss and console all of us in the journalism profession.
They therefore prayed may the soul of the late publisher find repose in the bosom of his creator.
