2027: Ogun East PDP Candidate OmoOwo Vows to Beat Abiodun, Promises Effective Representation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Ogun East, Abdul-Hameed Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, has expressed confidence in his electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that he would defeat Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, by noon on January 16, 2027.

Omotayo made the declaration on Thursday during the inaugural press parley of his campaign organisation at OmoOwo Hall, Ijebu-Ode, according to a statement issued by the OmoOwo Media Office on Friday.

The PDP candidate, who expressed optimism about his chances at the polls, said Ogun East deserved purposeful representation capable of translating the district’s potential into tangible development outcomes.

“I am confident that by 12 noon on January 16, 2027, I will have defeated Dapo Abiodun. Ogun East deserves effective representation, and I am ready to provide it,” he was quoted as saying.

He lamented what he described as the gap between the economic potential of Ogun East and the benefits accruing to its people, insisting that residents needed more than promises from their elected representatives.

According to him, his candidacy offers an opportunity to move away from what he characterised as a pattern of unfulfilled promises towards practical, measurable results.

“Ogun East does not need more talk about potential. Our people have heard enough of that. What they need, what they deserve, is competent, purposeful representation that delivers practical results. That is what I am offering,” he said.

Omotayo, who reportedly has more than three decades of professional experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, attributed the district’s development challenges partly to what he considered inadequate representation at the federal level.

He maintained that effective representation in the Senate should go beyond political rhetoric to include lawmaking, oversight of the executive, attracting federal projects and interventions, and ensuring that the needs of constituents inform national policy decisions.

“The role of a senator is specific and consequential. It is to make laws that serve the people, to hold the executive to account, to fight for the constituency’s share of federal allocations, and to ensure that the voices of communities, from Ijebu-Ode to Remo to Ogun Waterside, are heard in the chambers where the decisions that shape their lives are made.
“I know how to do this job. And I am prepared to do it,” he added.

On youth unemployment, the PDP candidate pledged to leverage his experience and professional contacts in the oil and gas industry to facilitate access to vocational training, skills acquisition and employment opportunities for young people across Ogun East.

He said such interventions would extend to related industries, with a view to improving employability and creating pathways for economic advancement among youths in the district.

The candidate also promised to advocate federal support for local markets, small businesses and artisans, describing them as critical drivers of economic activity and livelihoods in communities across the senatorial district.

In the health sector, Omotayo said he would work with relevant federal institutions to expand residents’ access to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and press for improvements in primary healthcare infrastructure across Ogun East’s nine local government areas.

He further pledged to pursue improved funding for public schools, better welfare for teachers and the expansion of technology infrastructure in educational institutions.

According to him, sustained investment in education would be essential to equipping young people with the knowledge and skills required to compete in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

Omotayo said his proposed agenda was aimed at ensuring that the people of Ogun East benefited more directly from federal opportunities, improved public services and policies capable of stimulating inclusive economic growth.

His declaration comes as political parties and aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with representation, employment, infrastructure and social services expected to feature prominently in political debates across the state.
