The Ogun State Government has recognized Wisdom College of Excellence (WICE), Iwopin, Ogun Waterside, as the *Best Private Senior Secondary School in Ogun State.*
The announcement was made on Monday 5th October at the World Teachers’ Day celebration held in Abeokuta, organized by the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
According to the State Government, WICE was selected for its outstanding academic performance, child-friendly learning environment, and innovative approach to education.
The school, with its motto *”Skills for Today, Future Leaders,”* has distinguished itself as a model for future-ready education in the state.
Speaking on the award, the Technical Monitor of WICE, Kabiru ABASS, said the recognition is a testimony to the hard work of the school’s teachers, students and management.
“WICE is investing heavily in future skills development. We are not just preparing students for WAEC and JAMB; we are preparing them for the future of work,” he said.
The future skills development areas at WICE include:
*1. Digital Skills:* 21st Century digital literacy and coding.
*2. Green Skills:* Climate action and environmental sustainability.
*3. Blue Skills:* Marine and water resources economy – aquaculture and fish farming to train students enterprenurship.
*4. Vocational Skills:* Hands-on practical skills.
*5. Soft Skills:* Leadership, communication, financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
To drive this, WICE is engaging in strategic partnerships:
– *Digital Partnership:* Annual Digital Boot Camp in collaboration with the *Ogun Waterside Patriotic Forum (OWPF).*
– *Community Development Partnership:* Partnership with the *Initiative for Education and Development (IDE)* on free computer training for children and adults in Ogun Waterside LGA.
– *Climate Action:* Annual tree planting campaigns and distribution of tree seedlings to fathers on Father’s Day to promote environmental responsibility at family level.
– *Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy:* Practical learning through the school fish farm, student-managed Tuck Shop, and financial literacy clubs.
– *EDUTAMS*: Data and Digitization of the school records and systems
– *School Lab Africa* school leadership capacity development.
– *Iwopin Traditional Council* for community services, historiography and participation in the annual Boat Regatta – Okoshi festival.
– *Higher Education and Leadership Programme (HELP)* a programme supporting transition of SSS 2 & 3 students to higher institutions. It is a collaboration with Read Early to Advance Development in Nigeria (READING)
The school management dedicated the award to all teachers of WICE for their resilience. The management commended their teachers on their full participation in the school Teachers’ Professional Development ( TDP) programme inline with Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and the National Teachers Policy
The role of WICE students were also commended for making the school proud as state and international competitions. In August 2026, Miss Sinlatei Agbojule is the only student from Ogun state to attend the Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) in Nairobi, Kenya.
WICE reiterated its commitment to supporting the Ogun State Government’s Education Agenda and the Federal Ministry of Education’s 5 pillars for transforming the teacher profession for Africa’s future.
