The YAYI Ni Wura Alliance Movement (Y.A.M.) has mobilised former supporters of opposition parties in Ogun State for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI.
The group also announced a target of mobilising 100,000 votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state in the 2027 general elections.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the movement, Comrade Wasiu Adekunle Adejumo, popularly known as Westo, disclosed this at a press briefing in Ogun State on Thursday.
Adejumo said members of the movement were drawn from different political backgrounds, including the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), adding that they had come together in support of Tinubu and Adeola.
He said, “We were initially on the side of the opposition party. Some of us from APC, PDP, some of us are from ADC.
“Because of the reason that we want to support Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI in Ogun State, and we want to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; that is the reason why we decided to come together.”
The State Coordinator of Y.A.M., Comrade Akeem Shodiya, said the movement was established to mobilise support for Tinubu, Adeola and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Shodiya said the group remained open to members of other political parties willing to join its mobilisation structure.
“We have made our decision. We have chosen our direction, we are open to all, and we want everyone to support this movement,” he said.
Adejumo said the group had also embarked on community-oriented activities, including a medical outreach at the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta.
He further cited some legislative and constituency interventions attributed to Senator Adeola, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
The group also expressed support for the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citing infrastructure development and economic reforms among the areas it believes should be sustained.
Westo, however, acknowledged that the administration still had challenges to address, but maintained that the government was making efforts to tackle some of the problems confronting the country.
On the 2027 elections, he said the alliance would support APC candidates across the state, including Senator Shuaib Salisu of Ogun Central and Hon. Olumide Osoba.
“We support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and we support all APC candidates in Ogun State, from Senator YAYI to Senator Shuaib Salisu, who is also seeking re-election for the seat of Senate in Ogun Central. We support Olumide Osoba; we support all APC candidates across the state,” he said.
The alliance also criticised opposition politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party figure, Peter Obi, over their political positions and policy proposals.
The criticism formed part of the group’s explanation for its decision to support Tinubu and APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The movement said its 100,000-vote figure represented its mobilisation target across Ogun State and was not an independent electoral projection.
Those present at the briefing included the alliance’s Senatorial Leader, Hon. Gbenga Adewale; Hon. Joseph Akintunde of Ogun West; Alhaji Segun Saula of Ogun East; Hon. Kehinde Oluyooye of Ijebu North East; Comrade Moshood Ogundare, popularly known as Oyinbo Iyabo; Hon. Mrs Funke of Obafemi-Owode; Hon. Toyin Kajogbola of Abeokuta North; and Comrade Temitope Ajayi, also known as Obailukan.
The group’s Director-General, Dr. Iziak Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, was also acknowledged at the event.
