The management of the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone (FTZ) has ordered a comprehensive investigation into allegations that some of its security personnel assaulted journalists during an official assignment in Ogun State.
In a letter dated June 5, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, the Chief Coordinator of the Zone, Dr. Abbey Onas, condemned the alleged incident and assured the union that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
Dr. Onas described any act capable of undermining the peaceful relationship between the Free Trade Zone and stakeholders as unacceptable, stressing that such conduct, if proven, runs contrary to the values and standards upheld by the organisation.
According to him, the management has already commenced an internal investigation into the allegations and will communicate the outcome, as well as any disciplinary or corrective measures taken, to the NUJ upon the conclusion of the exercise. He further assured that necessary steps would be implemented to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
The Chief Coordinator also appealed to the NUJ and other concerned parties to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions while the investigation is ongoing. He emphasized the need to preserve peace and stability within the Zone, noting that its reputation as a secure and business-friendly environment must be protected. Dr. Onas expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved through due process and constructive engagement, while thanking the NUJ leadership for drawing the issue to the attention of the management and for the longstanding cordial relationship between the union and the Free Trade Zone.
