Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old woman, Azeez Khadijat, in connection with the suspected theft and illegal repainting of a Suzuki minibus in Omu-Ijebu area of the state.
Police sources said the arrest followed credible intelligence received by detectives at the Omu-Ijebu Divisional Headquarters on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., indicating that a group of three men and a woman were seen repainting a commercial minibus, popularly known as “Korope,” in a bush along Ikhasi Road, Kajola via Omu.
The vehicle, which had no registration number at the time, was reportedly being repainted from its original yellow colour to white and blue in a suspected attempt to disguise its identity.
Acting on the tip-off, detectives moved swiftly to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the suspects fled in different directions, leaving behind the vehicle. Khadijat was, however, apprehended inside the abandoned minibus.
The police recovered the vehicle, later identified to bear a Lagos State registration number, and secured it at the station. Items recovered at the scene included three mobile phones, a power bank, a paint can, sandpaper, and a Type-C charging cord, believed to belong to the fleeing suspects.
Preliminary investigations suggest the minibus may have been used for criminal activities in Lagos, with efforts made to alter its appearance to evade detection.
Police authorities confirmed that a manhunt has been launched for the remaining suspects, while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the оперативes for their swift response and professionalism, assuring that all those involved in the crime would be apprehended and brought to justice.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through its emergency channels.
