Gov Dapo Abiodun has commended the Government at the Central led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its commitment to safeguarding lives and property under the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration.

The Governor who made this known during the Special Church Service to mark the year 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance day celebration, held at Cathedral Church of ST. Peter, Ake Abeokuta, added that the President has taken firm steps to strengthen the country’s security network, improve intelligence coordination, enhance interagency cooperation, improve troop welfare and provide modern equipment for our armed forces.

Gov Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele informed that these efforts are currently producing positive outcomes and increasing public confidence enjoining all the citizenry to join hands with the government in this regards in promoting peace alongside strengthening our country to stand strong, united and indivisible.

He opined that marking the Arrmed forces remembrance day Celebration has placed the responsibility on all of us not just to remember the fallen heroes but renewing our duty to uphold the values they defended, calling it a moment of thanksgiving, remembrance, reflection and renewed national responsibility.

Abiodun the reaffirmed that his administration remained committed to the welfare of serving officers, veterans and the families of fallen heroes, saying supporting them was not charity, but a duty we owe as a nation.

In his sermon, theme ‘Greater love; the sacrifice of the service men’, Bishop of Christ Chapel of Grace and Mercy, Ven. Dr. Samson Popoola,
Noted that there was no love compared to the one past heroes had for the country by sacrificing their lives for the nation, adding that the sacrifice of the heroes are multifaceted, as they were always absent during family functions.

Ven. Popoola said ‘we are gathered here to honour the fallen heroes, those living with one disability and those still alive. Armed forces celebration was a sober reflection as the peace nigerians are enjoying today was purchased at a cost by our heroes.’

He explained that sacrifice was the only language of true love and that was what the service men have done for us, enjoining christians to offer a living sacrifice to God, a Holy sacrifice and sacrifice devoid of any sinful act, referencing Esther 4 vs 16, when Esther did all she could to sacrifice herself as well as Abel and Kain.

On responsibilities of the living, he said the onus lies on those still alive, particularly government to do more for the families of the fallen heroes, while citizens should also show love to their families, calling on the service men not to be dismayed, as heaven has records of all their contributions to the nation.

Highlight of the Commemorative Church Service for the Arrmed forces remembrance day Celebration was prayers for the Nation, Government of Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Armed forces, Political leaders, Religious leaders and Traditional leaders.
