The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Abeokuta Branch has announced that the second edition of its flagship educational outreach programme, “Engineering and You” has successfully reached the semi-final stage.
The programme, which is fully approved by the Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, is designed to promote early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among secondary school students in Ogun State.
Building on the success of its maiden edition, which featured a STEM quiz competition involving 16 private secondary schools, the second edition adopts an Engineering-themed debate competition format. This approach is aimed at exposing students to contemporary engineering and technology issues while also enhancing their communication, public speaking, reasoning, and critical-thinking skills.
In a statement released by the Chairman of NSE Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, it was disclosed that the competition features 32 secondary schools, comprising 16 public and 16 private schools across the state. The weekly programme, which commenced on May 2, 2025, has now progressed to the semi-final stage.
The schools that have qualified for the semi-finals are Rev. Kuti Memorial Grammar School, Isabo, Abeokuta, Ebenezer Grammar School, Iberekodo, Abeokuta, St. Peter’s College Olomoore Abeokuta and Jacobs High School, Ota, Ogun State.

By blending technical topics with debate, we are helping students see Engineering beyond the classroom—as a vital tool for innovation, development, and national transformation.”*
The programme is fully sponsored by Engr. Prince Yemisi Shyllon, FNSE, and continues to be broadcast live on Ogun State Television (OGTV), DSTV Channel 260 and OGTV Social media handles every Friday at 5:30pm, thereby extending its reach to a wider audience.
Originally launched as a televised interview series featuring seasoned engineers sharing professional insights, the “Engineering and You” initiative has evolved into a vibrant competitive platform. It remains one of the most impactful youth-focused programmes of the NSE Abeokuta Branch and is expected to further deepen STEM awareness, stimulate intellectual curiosity, and strengthen engineering culture across Ogun State as it advances toward the final stage.
