The Ogun 1 Area Controller, of the Nigeria Customs service, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni has hit the grand running with a significant breakthrough over the the seizure of Hard drugs which includes 16 pieces of Heroine weighing 16 kg, 11 wraps of Meth crystal known as Ice weighing 12kg, cannabis sativa, foreign used vehicles, foreign parboiled rice, Vegetable Oil, spaghetti among others with duty paid value of One Billion, Five Hundred and Eighty-Six Million, Eight Thousand, Nine hundred and Eighty-Two Naira.
He attributed the overstretched health service and support being encountered in Nigeria especially among the youths as the effects of the hard drug being smuggled into the country saying the crucial effect of these seizures in protecting vulnerable sections of the population will be felt when Nigerians reflect on the side effects of the hard drugs.
All these revelations came to the fore at maiden edition of the Comptroller Afeni’s press briefing since assuming duties on 4th December,2025.where he reeled out several progresses made and key achievements in border security and anti-smuggling efforts through strategic enforcement and collaboration with relevant sister agencies
Deputy Comptroller Oladapo who vowed to make life unbearable smugglers in Ogun state said that the seizure was made possible as a result of the command’s strengthened response, and zero-tolerance stance against smuggling and economic sabotage.
Some of the items seized were either import prohibited, Export prohibited or outright Prohibited. They include : Crystal Meth (Ice) –11 Wraps weighing 12Kg
Heroine 16 pcs weighing 16kg
Cannabis Sativa Donut size- 128
Coconut-size- 2,752 wraps
Booklet size- 401, totaling 3, 373, weighing 1,502Kg.
c. Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) –6,750 liters.

d. Foreign Parboiled Rice of 50kg each –4,738 bags
e. Foreign-Used Vehicles – 2units.
f. Means of Conveyance –8 units.
g. Used Pneumatic Tires – 309bundles.
The seized items according to the Acting Controller were intercepted in different locations within Ogun State, including Lusada/Ado-Odo axis, Abule Kazeem/Igbo-Ora road, Abeokuta axis, Imeko axis,Idiroko/Owode axis, and Ipokia axis among others.
“The seizure of Narcotics being Crystal Meth and Cannabis Sativa is particularly worrisome, given their far-reaching impact on our youth, public health, and national security. Global instability has intensified challenges in addressing the world’s drug problem. Organized trafficking groups have pushed drug use to historically high levels according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)”
He commended the gallantry of his officers and their commitment to the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation.
” in my inaugural speech I made it clear to economic saboteurs who may wish to test our resolve, that Ogun I command under my watch will not tolerate any form of economic sabotage. I made a pledge to deploy all lawful means to combat smuggling and enforce compliance with extant trade laws and regulations and that our approach will be firm, fair, and intelligence-driven.
” As promised, we have intensified surveillance, deployed strategic intelligence, strengthened collaboration with sister agencies and community stakeholders to enhance border operations. These deliberate efforts have yielded remarkable results.”
The Comptroller further gave more insight into the feats recorded, “On 12 December 2025, our gallant officers and men successfully intercepted an Iveco Truck with Reg. No. RMY-354-XA laden with Four Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety Eight (4,998) Cartons of Doga brand Spaghetti 10Kg each, and Four Hundred and Nineteen (419) Cartons of Oba brand Spaghetti 10kg each illegally imported from Turkey.
“Again on 13 December 2025, our operatives intercepted a DAF truck with Reg. No. JHN-590-XAcarrying Two Thousand and Two Hundred (2,200) kegs of vegetable oil 25 liters each of Indonesian origin. These food items are designated as Contraband goods and are absolutely prohibited for importation in Nigeria. The combined Duty Paid Value of the food items stand at Two Hundred and Ninety One Million, Two Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N291,260,000) while the trucks used as means of conveyance are worth (222,000,000) Two Hundred and Twenty Million Naira.
Afeni who enlightened Nigerians on the dangers of food items finding their way to the open market lie in consuming substandard products that have not been subjected to health checks and declared fit for consumption by relevant agencies in Nigeria has caused so much dangers on the health people.”
He also frowned at some unscrupulous tradesmen deliberately smuggling in substandard food items and profiting on the health risk of non-suspecting Nigerians, describing them evil minded and wicked .
“The trucks and content therein all stand to be forfeited to the Federal Government in line with extant laws and guidelines.”
On revenue generation, the controller noted that the command made Twenty Seven Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty-One Naira Only (N27, 291, 861.00) in generated revenue as at 16 December 2025.
While appreciating the gallant officers and men of Ogun I Area Command whose relentless efforts, despite daunting challenge gave birth to the tremendous outcome, he commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his dynamic leadership, unflinching support, and consistent encouragement.
He therefore reaffirmed the unwavering resolve to sustain this momentum. Saying Smugglers and their collaborators are warned to steer clear of Ogun I Command.
While receiving the seized hard drugs from Customs, Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, Idiroko, Mr Olaniyi Ekundayo, commended the Comptroller for strengthening the existing collaboration between the agency and NCS adding that the mandate is to deal decisively with drug cartels and their collaborators.
He warned youths on the hazard of drugs intake as it poses threat to their health and national security.
